LA, curated: November 2026

folder_openInspiration, LA Curated

Each month, we share a considered selection of places and experiences across Los Angeles that reflect how environments shape perception and connection. These are signals of where culture, design, and place intersect with intention.

This November, we move through the architecture of Paul R. Williams, an open-air night with Moby and Underworld, coffee in an Echo Park garden, a new independent bookstore in South Pasadena, ceramics made by hand, and a lesser-seen side of John Baldessari.

ARCHITECTURE.

Paul R. Williams: Architect for Living – LACMA

Paul R. Williams helped shape Los Angeles through an extraordinary range of residential, civic, religious, commercial and hospitality projects. LACMA’s new exhibition brings together drawings, photographs and archival material, including works that have never before been exhibited, tracing the breadth of his influence on the city and the many ways he helped define Southern California architecture.

MUSIC.

Moby + Underworld – Brookside at the Rose Bowl

Moby and Underworld share the bill for an open-air night at Brookside, joined by Fcukers, Nia Archives with a DJ set, and DJ Holographic. Five artists, one stage and a lineup that moves across generations of electronic music make this an unusually good reason to spend a November evening in Pasadena.

DRINK.

Loto Coffee – Echo Park

Hidden behind a residential gate in Echo Park, Loto turns a family bungalow and terraced backyard into one of the city’s more unusual new coffee stops. Owners Julian Scharman and Stephanie Hong pair coffee from the highlands of Mexico with Japanese-influenced pour-overs, handmade ceramics and a garden designed for staying awhile.

Look for the strip of blue tape on the gate that says, simply, “Loto, come on in.”

READ.

Outpost Books – South Pasadena

South Pasadena has a new independent bookstore on Fair Oaks Avenue, where new and used books sit within a space inspired by the roadside trading posts owner Nicole Novembrino remembers from childhood trips between Southern California and New Mexico.

The Route 66 location feels especially fitting, with hand-drawn signs, a desert-inspired interior and shelves selected by Novembrino herself giving the shop a distinctly personal point of view.

MAKE.

Tattoo a Mug with Steve  Steve’s Backhouse

Ceramicist Steve Stringer opens his backhouse for a two-hour workshop devoted to his signature ceramic “tattooing” technique. Each guest begins with one of Stringer’s handmade mugs, then covers it with original drawings or imagery inspired by his flash sheet before the piece is glazed and fired.

Steve’s Backhouse • 4866 Clinton St., Los Angeles, CA 90004
November 19, 2026 • 7–9 PM

ART.

John Baldessari: Sculptures — Sprüth Magers

John Baldessari is best known for his experiments with photography, painting and language, while this exhibition turns to a less familiar part of his practice: the moments when his ideas moved into physical space.

Works spanning several decades bring together sculpture, installation, bas-relief and even sound, revealing the same wit and curiosity that defined Baldessari’s better-known work through objects that play with bodies, scale and the way we understand what we see.

Sprüth Magers • 5900 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90036
Through December 12, 2026 • Tue–Sat 11 AM–6 PM
