Atlason Organic Slab Coffee Table — DWR
The Organic Slab Coffee Table reflects a broader shift in how living spaces are arranged and used. As seating has moved away from fixed layouts toward more fluid, modular compositions, the objects within those spaces have followed. This table is designed with that in mind.
Created by Hlynur Atlason as part of DWR’s Design Residency, the form moves beyond the traditional rectangle. The elongated, asymmetric shape allows it to sit comfortably within a range of configurations, particularly alongside curved and sectional seating. It can be approached from multiple sides, supporting movement and conversation without a defined front or back.
Atlason’s work is grounded in observation. His focus is on how people gather, how they move through a room, and how objects support that over time. The table follows that thinking. It does not impose itself on the space. It adjusts to it.

Material brings the piece into focus. The marble top, Cipollino Ondulato, is quarried in Italy and selected for its distinctive veining and variation. Each slab reads differently, with a surface that shifts in tone and depth depending on light and position. The stone is paired with solid wood legs in black ash, set at the outer edge of the form, extending the profile while giving the table a sense of balance and structure.
There is a clarity to the construction. The connection between wood and stone is expressed directly, without excess. The proportions are considered, the materials are allowed to speak, and the result is a piece that feels resolved without drawing attention to itself.
It is not designed as a focal point. It works as part of a larger composition. A surface that holds objects, supports use, and adapts as the room shifts around it.
